The Role of a Special Education Teacher at Meeting Street Schools:

Meeting Street Schools (MSS) Special Education Teachers co-teach alongside a general education teacher in an inclusive classroom setting to support all students in the classroom. The Special Education teacher will co-plan and deliver lessons that incorporate multiple learning modalities, adapt and modify instruction, and create strategies and meaningful interventions to support students’ learning.  MSS teachers combine the ability to motivate and educate, to develop academic as well as character skills, and to make a college preparatory education relevant both now and for the future. MSS teachers have a growth mindset and participate in rigorous professional development throughout the year, including: Responsive Classroom training, Eureka Math, Wit and Wisdom ELA, collaborative planning sessions, whole and small group school-wide focus professional development, team analysis of performance data and other personalized opportunities for teachers to grow. MSS teachers also have the opportunity to visit other high-performing elementary schools and universities to strengthen their practice as educators.

  • Assist in building classroom community and relationships with families, participating in a powerful team that ensures all students make outstanding academic progress

  • Commits to constant professional and personal growth through reflection, feedback, and collaboration

  • Models MSS’ Path to Success skills and supports the development of those skills in students and peers

  • Create a positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment that excites and invests students as they reach their full potential

  • Designs and implements Individualized Education Plans in accordance with school, network, district and federal policies and laws

  • Provides direct and indirect instruction

  • Evaluates students’ progress

  • Teaches a multi-model approach

  • Establishes and maintain classroom management procedures

  • Prepare written reports accurately and submit in a timely manner

  • Effectively communicates with teachers, parents, and administrators to facilitate the IEP process

  • Serves as effective professional liaison between school and home 

  • Coordinates meetings, planning, and implementation of Multi- Tier Student Supports (MTSS) framework in conjunction with MTSS team members.

  • Compassionate, enthusiastic and empathetic 

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite

Educational Background and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred (Degree must be conferred by start date)

  • Minimum 2 years of successful experience working with under-served students

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in an educational setting

  • Certification in one or more of the following area(s) is required:

    Special Education -- Multi-Categorical

    Special Education – Learning Disabilities

    Special Education – Emotional Disabilities

    Special Education – Other Health Impaired
